Unredeemed

This song is coming out later this year on Selah's next cd, a group I have loved for years. I first spotted the lyrics on the blog Bring the Rain, and soon after on another blog I enjoy, czech chat. Since then, I have spent some time thinking about its message. It goes so many places. Most obvious to Josh and myself is how it will apply to the lives and hurts of the older children we will adopt in the coming years. That is how we have always answered well-meaning friends and family that try to warn us about the so-called "baggage" children in foster care will bring with them. Except I always worded it more to the effect that God is bigger than their broken hearts, habits, and histories. This song definitely says it so much more beautifully.

No surprise here, it makes me watery just to read the lyrics and envision the triumph God can bring out of such situations and to remember situations I have seen it come to pass. God is just so good, so amazing. Why in the world do people resist him so? It's just crazy to me.

Unredeemed by Selah

The cruelest words
The coldest heart
The deepest wounds
The endless dark
The lonely ache
The burning tears
The bitter night
The wasted years

Life breaks and falls apart
But we know these are…
Places
Where grace is
Soon to be so amazing
They may unfulfilled
They may unrestored
But when anything that’s shattered
Is laid before the Lord
Just watch and see
It will not be
Unredeemed

For every choice
That led to shame
And all the love
That never came
For every vow
That someone broke
And every life
That gave up hope

We live in the shadow of the fall
But the cross says these are all –
Just places
Where grace is
Soon to be so amazing
They may unfulfilled
They may unrestored
But when anything that’s shattered
Is laid before the Lord
Just watch and see
It will not be
Unredeemed

They may unfulfilled
They may unrestored
You never know the miracles
The father has in store
Just watch and see
It will not be
Unredeemed
