Still Collecting!

It has been a MINUTE since my last Word Junkie drop!  Which is funny because I have been reading up a storm this year.  You would think I would have come across more new-to-me words.  Not so, apparently!  I DO, however, have full, full, full Commonplace Books where I have journaled a million beautiful, interesting, well-written quotes, phrases,  and words from my reading this year though.  Those I like to handwrite ... to savor and to save.  Anyway, here's the latest for my Word Junkie collection with faves in bold ...

  • saccade - rapid movement of the eye between fixation points
  • hegemony - leadership or dominance
  • shibboleth - a custom, principle, or belief distinguishing a particular group of people

All August's Views

August's All

Bright and early, first thing, right away, straight outta the gate, August smashed us in the face with making Lasa return to school on the first.  It's a good thing it was a GREAT day, because I was without energy for ANYTHING else as I mourned the too-speedy end of summer.  Behold, a bunch of first day pic cuteness...

No sooner had I dropped Lasa off and pulled back in the garage than I get a text that Noah had been stung by hornets at work and was headed back home. So there was that.  About 6 stings before he got out of their range ... all on his head and arms.  Nothing some ice, elevation, hydrocortisone and benedryl couldn't doctor up.  He was back at work within half an hour.  And his boss and coworkers found the nest and promptly destroyed it with a capital D.  Noah lost his airpod in the process of flailing and screaming and was more worried about that than the stings afterward.  Ha!  (He did finally find the lost one that day after work with Josh's help.  It was a whole thing.)

Another month, another Bunco sesh.  Love these friends.

Noah and Anna's first day pics that they still humor me for.  Glad!

Traditional first day breakfast out ... that morphed into a lunch out at Meat Sweats instead after an orientation at their co-op. Brisket nachos for the win!

And then that Thursday for their first day of class at said co-op ... when THEY DROVE THEMSELVES there.  Excellent milestone for this momma.

Sweet Rock Farm has been bringing in some beauties this month ... flowers, fruits, eggs galore.  Enough eggs, even, that we started selling them - 4 to 5 dozen eggs each week, which is all we have to spare.  Going like hotcakes at church!

Collage I use when I post eggs available for sale to friends.

We had an awesome streak of really cool temps so swimming stopped happening and the pool turned some green.  So we went ahead and pulled the plug and put the pool away til next summer.

Lasa enjoyed another visit with Angelique at the splash pad at Peay Park for a belated birthday celebration.

Cool nights welcome warm fires.

Summer puzzle finally finished.  I love it!

School days settling in.

Couple good books I read - though I didn't care for the ending of the Leah Weiss one.

Hang time with friends ...

Animals we love here at Sweet Rock.

One very confused kittie who keep trying to get milk from Valley.

We started letting Finnick roam around the property on his own this month.  We are happy to report that he always come back ... so far. 😬

Josh got some free tickets for the Wilson County Fair so that made for a fun Saturday morning for the kids.

Books I am scrambling to glean all the wisdom I can from - STAT.  Parenting a certain teen has gotten a little demanding and heartbreaking and hard ... but the Lord is growing our faith as he answers tender prayers little by little.  It is amazing to watch unfold ... We are continuing to cling to him and to point our teen to that, too.  There is struggle there surrounding issues involving phones, emotions, boundaries, consequences, rebellion, music choices, trust, friends, friends' language and behavior, adoption grief, all of it!  Pray for the teens in this house!

Maypop flowers all over the property that I adore.

Pretty rosebud of Josh's that opened up all lovely.

Pretty petals from another of his roses that were an unexpected encouragement to my heart on a hard day after a hard week...

We already see leaves changing on the hills in front of us.  Welcoming Fall with open arms.  Come on, September!  Be sweet to us.
