Gimme me a T (shirt)

Gimme a T - T!!
Gimme a Shirt - Shirt!
What's that spell?
The Family Brown's entire wardrobe!

I kid, I kid.
Mostly.
I was just amused (and inspired) by the rainbow that was Josh's stack in today's laundry. :)
We are a t-shirt and jeans kind of family ...
and we like it that way.

One Oh Eight

The high today is 108.  That will certainly be a first for this girl!
I guess this is what you call the Dog Days of Summer?
 Chewie's sure feeling it.

No worries for the rest of us, though.
I've cranked the AC down to 65 since this morning
and we've been busy, busy ever since.
We've been swimming,
slurping popsicles,

making forts in the playroom,

doing chores,
and have just settled down to a movie (Narnia♥)
with a picnic in the living room to follow here in a minute.

Library books are on queue for after lunch.

I kinda like being grounded at home for a day.
We should do this more often!

Sea Star = Rock Star

Three cheers for Sea Star swim lessons this week (and next)!

Three cheers for Brandt, Noah's swim teacher!

And three big cheers for that little swimmer in the middle who is slowly but surely conquering some very big water fears!

I couldn't be more happy with Noah's progress. Thank you, Lord!!

This summer can't go wrong in my book.

So, so relieved for him!

Taa Daa: His and Hers

Josh's Taa Daa Moment this week: He added a cool, new slide to our playground, with an assist from his dad. (We snagged this bad boy for only $50!)

My Taa Daa moment this month:  Scoring this wrought iron headboard for only $10 and upgrading it with white spray paint for the guest bedroom.

Cheating a Little

While my mother and father-in-law were in town this past week, they had us book a photographer to take some pics of them with all their grandkids. The pictures turned out to be so special. I love so many of them and would share them, but my FIL has asked that we wait til after Christmas to share them. I may finagle a waiver out of him for my blog since it's a private one, but I'll wait til he says it's ok since the whole photog session was his idea and his purchase.

BUTTTTT, I did cheat a little and crop out two of my favorite faces in the whole wide world from amongst the shots he got from the session. And if I get in trouble, I will plead insanity, because how could a momma not go crazy over two shots like these?

Seriously, I'm nuzzling the screen right now.

Post Script (added after Christmas) ... here are my favorite group shots of all the cousins....

Catching up w/the Cousins

The cousin thing really makes for a special friendship growing up.  Noah and Anna adore their cousins with whom they just spent the last week.  I hardly saw them at all because they were so busy with the big kids.  And thankfully, the big kids humored my little ones.  They are certainly a blessing for my babies to look up to.  Some snapshots from the last night they were in town when we roasted hotdogs and marshmallows and swam until dark when it was time to catch fireflies again. :)

Anna's decided Hannah is her best friend now. Noah's heart belonged to her, too.  Except when he was occupied with Aaron.  Thank goodness for another boy cousin to play hard with!

That blur of a splash in the middle of the pool is my Noah going underwater BY HIS OWN WILL!  His confidence grew by leaps and bounds after swimming with Aaron, Holly, and Hannah ... ESPECIALLY Hannah, bless her.  I think she should charge us a swim lesson fee because she was the fun angel that got Noah swimming underwater at last and doing all sorts of new tricks without fear.

Anniversary Trip

So I've been MIA of late because we've been soaking up a wonderful week full of visiting with out-of-town family and an anniversary getaway to the mountains one state over.  Josh's parents came up with all of the Brown family cousins and kept them here at our house while Josh and I got away alone for once.  We figured the 10 year marker was worth splurging on, no? :}  So we headed east for Ashville, NC to see the famous Biltmore Estate, yes, but mostly to just escape together.  We stayed up late, we slept in, we ate out, we saw movies, we saw sights, we wandered just for the sake of wandering and it was wonderful.  Happy Almost-10-Years to us!

The first night we were there, we drove a little on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  I love, love, love how green and beautiful everything is in mountain communities.  When I think of this trip with Josh, I will think of views like this along every road.

At the Biltmore House, we also toured the grounds, gardens, and winery.  We did some wine tasting and I discovered one I could actually enjoy - a Biltmore Limited Release Chenin Blanc.  :)  Anyway, the big, giant, dead, rich man's house that was wildly overpriced to tour looked like this.  We would have certainly enjoyed it more if we weren't choking at the cost of admission.

My favorite part of the house wasn't even in the house.  It was, and I quote in an uppity accent, on the Library Terrace overlooking the South Terrace and Tea House.

Here is the view from the bench where we sat to cool off in the breeze because it was freaking hot inside the house.  All that money and no AC.  Sheesh.

Some other Biltmore shots we took (all outside shots because you can't take pictures inside the house) ...

We checked out Chimney Rock also and thanked our lucky stars that the elevator was working because neither of us were in the mood to sweat hike on our getaway.  We were solely in the area to relax and take in the scenery and sights. (Fun fact, Chimney Rock is where the Last of the Mohicans was filmed.)

And Lake Lure there in the background is where Dirty Dancing was filmed, too. :)

Perhaps what we enjoyed the most was the free time (emphasis on the word free) spent window shopping in Chimney Rock Village and wandering along the little riverwalk area.

So thankful for the time away!  So thankful for Josh's parents being willing and eager to keep the kiddos for us!  So looking forward to getting back to the mountains somewhere soon.  We laughed at how much we found ourselves thinking how much Noah and Anna would have enjoyed the area. On a trip that was meant to be done without them, we kept thinking how much we wanted them with us. That's what 10 years of marriage and family will do to ya, I guess. :)
