Free-hand on Friday

It is no secret that our Noah is NOT artistically inclined.  The kid still draws people with heads and legs and arms only.  No bodies.  At almost age TEN!  And he draws very, very small and very, very hurried.  No scale, no detail, no interest.  And I don't hold it against the kid.  He has strengths in other areas to be sure.

BUT, today I handed him a learn-to-draw book and said, "You might enjoy trying these sometime. It has step-by-step directions that you can follow just like your Lego books.  Go put this where you want it."  Turned out, he wanted to try it right away.  He went easy on his first attempt and used the tracing paper.  Then, he tried his hand at the actual free-hand drawing instructions.  I guess comparing it to Lego step instructions was really speaking his language, because look at how great his first free-hand drawing turned out?!!

Scale AND detail AND accuracy! It looks great!  We were both so pumped about his drawing success, we texted Josh a pic at work right away and Noah got right to work on his next one.  I love it when my kids try new things ... and enjoy it. Too fun!
