Everything to Me

Y'all, this song makes me emotional every time I hear it because adoption has brought such blessing, such joy into our lives. I just had to document it here and share it. It is by Mark Schultz who was adopted himself and it is written for his birthmother. I first heard this song when my sister-in-law emailed it to me about a year ago I guess and I have loved it ever since. I have a copy on CD that I imagine giving to Noah's birthmother one day when the time seems right for this specific encouragement.

Today it was especially moving for me to hear as I listened to it in the car, because a certain little 2 1/2 year old kept calling out over the music about cows, or train tracks, or Anna, or telling me about the "Totchy" he made at school today. He is my living, breathing, beautiful evidence of the good that choosing life and adoption brings about.

Everything To Me Lyrics

here.

Everything to Me by Mark Schultz
I must have felt your tears
When they took me from your arms
I’m sure I must have heard you say goodbye
Young and so afraid had you made a big mistake
Could an ocean even hold the tears you cried
But you had dreams for me
You wanted the best for me
And you made the only choice you could that night

You gave life to me
A brand new world to see
Like playing baseball in the yard with dad at night
Mom reading Goodnight Moon
And praying in my room
So if you worry if your choice was right
When you gave me up, oh, you gave everything to me

And if I saw you on the street
Would you know that it was me
And would your eyes be blue or green like mine
Would we share a warm embrace
Would you know me in your heart
Or would you smile and let me walk on by
Knowing you had dreams for me
You wanted the best for me
Oh, I hope that you’d be proud of who I am

You gave life to me
A chance to find my dreams
And a chance to fall in love
You should have seen her shining face
On our wedding day
Oh is this the dream you had in mind
When you gave me up
You gave everything to me

And when I see you there
Watching from heaven’s gates
Into your arms
I’m gonna run
And when you look in my eyes
You can see my whole life
See who I was
And who I’ve become

Cuz you gave life to me
A brand new world to see
Like playing baseball with my son late at night
And reading Goodnight Moon
And praying in his room
I'm so grateful that I had this life
When you gave me up
You gave everything to me
Everything to me

What a sweet song. I'm sure Noah's birthmother would find a lot of encouragement through that when you share it with her. My niece is 16 and we just learned that she is pregnant but I'm not sure of her decision on keeping or adoption right now. Please pray for her and her baby if you think about it.

This brought tears to my eyes. Noah's smiling face picture was on the screen next to the video while it was playing and it just made me tear up and brought goose bumps to my arms!

How absolutely wonderful Kimmie! What a great song! I just read the words and my eyes welled up with tears. How blessed Noah is to have been given a mom and dad like you two. Great...just great.

Very neat song. My cousin just met his birthmother after 38 years, ironically just 2 months after his adoptive mother (my aunt) died...wonder if he knows about this song...pretty neat.

My great neice (16) just gave birth to a healthy baby boy named
Dalton. Her mother wanted her to get an abortion but she refused and is taking responsibility along with the baby's father. She got her GED while pregnant and the father is working full time. Pray
that they will make it as a family.
They plan to marry as soon as she is of legal age. (Great Song! Thanks)
