Greenhouse Updates

Since last week, Josh and the kids (more Anna than Noah, really) have continued to perfect their greenhouse retreat.  They even added lights inside so they can work after dark.  True story, Josh has gone back out to work more after the kids are in bed and has stayed up waaaay past his usual and preferred bedtime getting so caught up in this space!  Whole view...

Closer...

Closer still...

They installed a gutter-of-sorts to guide rainwater to the rain barrel for water supply.

Step right in!

Welcome! There is talk of some paver and/or hay going down on the ground where they walk.

Just inside the door, they pour water from the rain barrel into a hanging bucket that they've affixed a spigot to and that sources their soaker hose in the bed, which you can see is coming right along in terms of sprouts.  Anna is delighted every morning with the new growth.

Josh added a window in one wall and a fan for ventilation after it got so hot in there that he's pretty sure one set of seeds were cooked straight up.  They have yet to sprout after a couple weeks time now.  Sad!  You can see Josh's lighting situated there on the wall.  Also, a couple peach trees we snagged on clearance at Kroger.

Trays of beans, watermelon, cantaloupe, kale, and something else Anna forgets at the moment.

View from the back door.

Lastly, a nice new outdoor bed by the greenhouse with some monkey grass Josh is trying to coax back to life that we dug up from the front yard, two new blueberry bushes, and some practice strawberry plants that we know won't produce because that season is over.  Josh says it's just good practice runs for the kids.  Lasa is now affectionately titled The Un-Gardener as she likes to dig up what they have just planted. :}

For his birthday next week, Josh will be getting ... not much since we are still paying off his last year's birthday present (the hot tub) ... but we have also pulled together some garden gnomes for his greenhouse efforts and Anna is going to paint some rocks for garden markers and such.  Mum's the word on those surprises!
