Noah's Liquidation Sale

Noah had a little incident at church last week involving his epi-pen.  It was used on another child by accident and had to be replaced.  Besides the obvious trouble Noah got an earful about, the other trouble was the cost to replace the epi.  In order to reinforce the lesson that epis are NOT cheap and are ALSO not toys, Noah had to come up with some money to pay for half of what an epi-pen costs.  For him, that came to $50.  (We thought they were $100 each.  Turned out to that each epi is actually $200!!!)

Our boy proved to be quite blessed in this situation because no sooner had his sentence been declared than all his gear I have been trying to sell for him for weeks suddenly started selling like hotcakes.  HOTCAKES, I tell you.  They didn't go for as much as they were originally listed on GTP for, but altogether all this stuff sold enough to get him all $50 and then some cash back in his wallet.  Go figure!

Noah split the profit with Anna for this camera and got $5 from it.

Noah sold his Leapster (finally) for $20.

His Imaginext catapult pulled in $6.

Star Wars brought home $10. Boom Blox is pending for $4.

Carnival Games is also pending for $4.  And Noah got $5 from Just Dance after splitting the profit with Anna.

Nice work, Noah!  Now don't go messing around with your epi-pen again lest you give your poor parents a heart attack.  It is not a sword to show off to your friends. : /  Knuckle head.

So what happened, exactly? Did Noah stick another kid with his epi pen?

Not exactly. He showed it off well enough that the other kids wanted to hold it and see the needle apparently. He not only gave in, but he even pulled off the safety for them, so when the other kid took it and jammed it directly into his hand, he did indeed get stuck and ended up bleeding. :S That's all we know because that kid was already gone home by the time I even saw the epi had been used. Getting the replay was really chaotic and inconclusive. But overall, just SCARY! And we were all caught off guard and didn't know what to do when it is accidentally triggered. Now we know. Nothing like learning the hard way. It was not a good afternoon for Noah. He got quite a scare and a earful. :(

Dang! That is scary! Could cause cardiac arrest in a kid that doesn't need it! Shoooweee, I'm glad you drove that point in.

That boy.

I know! I hated not being able to advise that family to go to the ER just in case like I saw advised online. Hopefully they googled it as well on their own and called their doctor? We had the church call them to tell them what had happened. And that's all we heard. :S Such a stressful afternoon.

Question, nurse ... if he yanked it away from his hand fast enough, it is possible non of the epinephrine entered his system? We do know his hand was bleeding and he cried out, 'Ouch!'

As far as I understand, you are *supposed* to hold the needle in place for 3-5 seconds right? So if he snatched it away, he did not LIKELY get a good full dose. But even if he got a little dose, if it was near his finger, Epinephrine closes off the blood to those little capillaries in fingers and can cause problems with lack of circulation to the finger...if it was his hand..I dont' *think* it would be as serious a problem. and especially if he truly yanked his hand away as soon as he was pricked. So the boy is likely fine...but still, that could have seriously hurt someone, so I'd still drive in the fact to Noah that the EPi pen and any other meds are strictly for the use of those their prescribed for.

Okay I'm off my nurse soap box. :)
