DECADE'S Last Word Junkie

Although I am certain I will be doing more reading over Christmas Break, these here make up my last installment of Word Junkie collections of the year/decade.  Still wrapping my mind around this being the end of a decade!

Faves in bold ...
  • puncheon - a short post; a pointed tool for piercing or working on stone
  • bosky - wooded; covered by trees or bushes
  • cantabile - in a smooth singing style
  • deadfalls - a tangled mass of fallen trees or bushes
  • skirling - to make a shrill, wailing sound
  • fatuity - stupidity; foolishness
  • inamorata - a women with whom one is in love
  • withy - a tough flexible branch used for tying, binding, or basketry
  • williwaw - a sudden violent squall blowing offshore from mountainous coast
  • doxy - lover; mistress
  • verdure - lush, green vegetation; a condition of freshness
  • suasion - persuasion as opposed to force or compulsion
  • hokum - nonsense
  • ludic - showing spontaneous and undirected playfulness
  • puckish - playful, especially in a mischievous way
  • evert - turn outward or inside out
  • gabble - talk rapidly and unintelligibly
  • fubsy - fat and squat
