Swan Lake at Schermerhorn

Anna played hooky and joined Noah and me for a little field trip to Nashville yesterday.  We had seats for a Young People's Concert at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center - a performance of Swan Lake!

Just outside the gorgeous building.
This shot was really more a celebration of the fact that I got us downtown and survived the congestion and the parking garage and made it back out into daylight ... and early, no less!

We spotted some friends of ours (Amy and kiddos) and enjoyed excellent seats with them in our own loge (new word!) just off the side of the stage.  File that under homeschool perks ... all the regular field trip kiddos were crammed in the floor seats and did NOT have the view and room to breathe that we did. :} And - bonus - this was all FREE.

I wasn't sure if there would be a ballet performance or just the symphony performance, so I was tickled that there were both.  The ballet dancers from a Nashville School of Performing Arts did a number of scenes and it was just beautiful and impressive and so great.  The music was so perfect it didn't sound live ... like, you would have thought it was edited and being played pre-recorded, the timber and pitch and sound was all so even and beautiful.  I was touched by it all and so thankful to get to share this with my kiddos and expose them to this artistic input.

Surprisingly, Anna and her friend Mallory got antsy and less interested as the performance went on.  I can understand that a bit.  If you've seen one leap, twirl, leg extension, you have seen them all really. Ha!  But Noah and his pal Brody were soooooo into it.  They didn't mess around at all.  Noah said his favorite part was the bad guy and also the guy playing the bass drum.

Afterwards, we walked the pedestrian bridge over the river to Cumberland Park to play and enjoy the GORGEOUS sunny day we had in the cool air.  On the way over the bridge, Anna posed like a ballerina.

Noah did ... well, I forget what Noah thought this was.   Ha!  Also, ever the Nashville scene, we passed a singer and crew filming a music video on the bridge.  That was cool to witness.

I do believe I am getting better at taking group selfies!

My babies do so love that batman building.  And on another note, how crazy is it that they are the same size these days?  Love the cutie-patootie set that they are.

Great day downtown!  The only thing missing was Josh.

And we head out tomorrow for another Nashville field trip, too.  Look at me go!

Great pictures! Glad y'all had a fun day. I have not been to the Schermerhorn yet, but would love to hear a concert there sometime.

Some friends of ours went to hear Handel's Messiah in December. I would LOVE that.

What a fun time! Jealous already of all that special time you get on a random Thursday.

Natalie got bored at the Nutcracker during Christmas time too...must be their age.
