Fall Creek Falls Trip

This past week we trotted a couple hours east to "camp" in a Fisherman's cabin at Fall Creek Falls State Park.  What a sweet little retreat it was!  Before we even checked into our cabin, we went hiking over 2 miles to the top of Fall Creek Falls.

We planned this little trip with some good friends of ours, the DeVores.

Noah and I LOVED the many swinging bridges.
Josh?  Not so much.

We saw so many deer and so many turkeys!   And to our delight, the deer were so easy-natured.  They didn't run from us at all ... not even when Noah TRIED to scare them off.

While there weren't a ton of colors turning just yet, there were enough to really drive home that Autumn feel.

There are multiple falls to visit,
but this is the actual Fall Creek Falls.

The falls were Anna's favorite part of the trip, she says.

Having friends along for the ride was such a highlight for us all.  Caleb on the left is in Noah's class this year.

A view from the back porch of our cabin.  Being right over the water was such a cool novelty!

And the view didn't hurt either. :)

By the time I woke up that first morning we were there, Josh and kids were already at work.

And it wasn't too long before Noah caught his first (and the trip's only) fish. :)  He was so, so thrilled!

Anna, on the (literal) other hand, only caught the glove she was wearing. XD

Pardon the pun, but Noah was hooked on fishing.  He kept at it for so long, so patiently.  And the convenience of the house being on the water allowed for him to return again and again to fish some more without us standing over him.

Once the fish stopped biting, we decided to go check out George's Hole and do a some light hiking around that area.

Turns out, I am a sucker for bridges. They were my favorite part of the trip.

And these two.

Josh grimacing through the bouncy trek across the bridge. :}

Just enjoying the wide open spaces ... and the joys of throwing rocks and sticks into the water.

You know about me and leaves by now, right? :)

Back at the fishing, which has been declared Noah's favorite part of the trip.

Josh's favorite part of the trip, by the way, was making and maintaining our fire in the wood stove.

Our second and last night there, we joined the DeVores at their Landside cabin (which Josh wants to rent next time) to roast hot dogs, marshmallows, and mess around with Noah's sling shot.

Also, I shared a room with Anna and got camera happy as I watched my girl sleep.

I didn't have internet or phone signal the whole time we were there and it only bothered me a little, so that was liberating. :)  Best quote from the trip was Noah's.  As we drove the winding roads at twilight (on a quick caffeine run for me, of course) we oohed and aaahed over passing deer beside the road.  We admired the colors of the leaves again and the cool night air.  Noah sighs from the backseat, "I didn't know God made so many pretty things."

And yes, I dropped 40 pics in a single post.  I think that might be a record for me.

The actual Fall Creek falls = beautiful.

The reflection of the hills (and cabins) in the lake water = mesmerizing

And I agree with Amy. How could you not include a ton of pics? :)

My friend Amber tells me the one we didn't see was even better, so now we have a hiking destination the next time we go. :)

Love all the pics and that place looks gorgeous. If we weren't so settled in VA, I'd try to sweet talk Robbie into moving out there. Maybe we'll settle for a vacation that way sometime in the next few years.
