Math Moment

I can't believe I have kiddo doing this kinda math.
And doing it with ease!

Today was his first time using this algorithm to solve multi-digit multiplication problems.  Because of the activities in previous lessons, it was such a natural transition for him.  Love our math curriculum! Kudos, Right Start Mathematics!

I bet it didn't take him 20 minutes per problem like common core.

Oh, Common Core. I don't even know it well enough to know how it compares. BUT, I will say the math examples I have seen people post ... I don't hate. I keep that to myself most days though. Ha! They have actually reminded me a good bit of the math we use. :} Reaaaaaaaaaallly impressive number sense. Which is what I credit Noah's ease into tough topics that I remember being soooooooo much harder for kiddos when I was in the classroom. We'll have to pow wow about it next time we cross paths...

My biggest complaint is parents don't understand it and can't help with homework. But as far as number sense my babies rock. They can compose and decompose all day long. But it helps that I teach common core whole brain style. Huge fan of Chris Biffle.

Oooooooh, yes! I bet you do feel the burden of it in that sense. Very interesting! I have thought to myself that it's not that the math is wrong, it's that it is new and not how they (the parents) were taught and so they are really just balking at it because it's foreign to them. Very interesting to hear your view of it from inside the classroom!
