Mammoth Cave

We have meant to hit up Mammoth Cave in Kentucky for years.  I was pumped to finally check this destination off our list yesterday with a field trip with our homeschool peeps.  Noah and Anna enjoyed it fairly, but I was the most eager one of all.  True story.  

It was a rainy day, so we didn't get to try any of the trails around the park, but that just means we can go back with Josh and Lasa one day.  Hopefully not years from now this time. 

Poor homeschoolers ... riding the bus from the Visitor Center to the cave entrance was a highlight for them.  Buses are these mythical things homeschoolers only dream of.  I joke that this portion of the day was a field trip within a field trip. 

Few last minute pointers and reminders by ranger/guide before going in the cave.  This was a really awkward time for all involved.  Ranger just kept right on chatting nice and slow ... LIKE WE WEREN'T ALL GETTING RAINED ON AND DUCKING OUR HEADS IN DISCOMFORT AND IMPATIENCE TO GET OUT OF THE RAIN.  Awkward annoyance, but also funny.  She really seemed oblivious to our plight and fidgeting and squirming under every raindrop ... she was snug under her waterproof rangers hat and gear. 😂

After a couple hours below ground, it was good to return to daylight, fresh air, and greenness again though.  Great day, Mammoth Cave!  Hopeful we can return soon to explore more of the grounds around the park.  How neat that this site is actually a national park?!
