Wrapping up 8th and 9th Grades

Lots of curriculum shots coming at ya as we document the end of our school year: 8th grade for Anna (including several high school credits) and 9th grade for Noah.  BUT I am pretty beat.  And late reporting all this good stuff.  Would you forgive me if I kept this summary short this year?  I will go first and forgive myself!

Since the kiddos took English 1 at Legacy, I only supplemented with some historical lit texts that coordinated with the US History we were doing.  These were them.  That Treasury of Poetry was such a great resource all year especially.

This is the stellar US History curriculum we completed this year.  I wasn't sure we had anything left to learn after covering early American history several years back.  But man!  We sure did.  And it was so interesting!  All of it.  We covered from just before Columbus to all the way past 2011 ... which we are actually finishing up a smidge here in the summer.  BookShark was an excellent choice for this year.  We will be returning to our beloved Beautiful Feet curriculum for Modern History next year, but I still give Book Shark two giants thumbs up for this year.

Anna completed the last year of RightStart Mathematics and it's prealgebra and geometry prep about killed her.  Turns out she doesn't like having to work for a grade after all these years of hardly trying at all.  HA!  She joins up with Noah next year for Geometry for her first high school math credit.  We love you RightStart for the EXCELLENT legacy and foundation you gave both my babies.  Can't believe we are officially done with you now after 9 years.

Biology 1 and English 1 that both kiddos did at Legacy.  I loved outsourcing these two courses.  So many labs and science work and essays.  Oh, the essays.  Outsourcing these two courses again next year. ;) 

Both kiddos completed a half credit of work in a Finance course via Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace for youth.  Sorry, No pic to go with that.  It was quite an education in itself and the kiddos still have some of those videos to complete this summer.  For their Bible credit, they completed this Do Right study early in the year and then we worked steadily though this Visual Theology: Guide to the Bible. Excellent resources.

Noah finished this school year with a module still left of his math for Algebra 2, so he is juggling this still with his 40 hour work week and busy social life.  Not a minute to lose!  It's been a great, though challenging, second year with VideoText Interactive.  But Noah kept his cool and did the work to figure stuff out (and I did, too!).  Soldiering on with it for Geometry next year for sure!  The video lessons and detailed course notes and student practice work have been a great fit for him.

Both kiddos worked in a PE credit, though I can't count it for Anna just yet.  She will log that this next year officially.

And that's all! Anna got straight A's all year and Noah got all A's and B's, pulling in a 3.4 GPA.  Good start into his high school career, I say.  Peace out, 2021-2022 school year.
