Clay Lady Field Trip

Noah, Anna, and I thoroughly enjoyed a field trip Thursday to The Clay Lady Campus with the Nashville Homeschool Calendar group again.  The kiddos worked their own clay into plates, designed a 3D snowman of sorts for the plates to feature, and painted their work for finishing touches.  Afterward, the Clay Lady took them for a tour of the grounds - visiting artists in their studios, seeing the galleries with the artists' collections, and walking through the warehouse and seeing all the equipment, mixers, kilns, supplies, etc.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This woman has been teaching clay for 37 years.  She was so smooth and comfortable and effective in her teaching.  She was darling, too, encouraging them in their own artistry no matter what level.  "I take what I think, I take what I feel, I mix it all up and make something real."

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

If I get my way, Anna and I will go back for a Mom and Me class using the potter wheel in May.  Both kiddos wanna make their own coffee mugs, too, so I see a summer class on that being offered as well.

MLK Weekender

 On a slow and contented long MLK weekend at home (when we usually would have taken a short state park trip), we read and played and watched movies and slept in and caught up on to-do lists and thoroughly enjoyed some championship football.

We loved another morning with our Redeemer peeps and loved watching the snow lightly fall all day and some at night.  Not enough to play in, but enough in the air to make it feel magical.

The big kids and I stayed up late to watch the lunar eclipse/blood moon, chuckling to ourselves at how we bumblingly botched those plans last year and at how mad Anna was about it. 

This time we got it right.  It was SO cool.  And so crystal clear up there in the sky.  The stars were on point, too, though I got none in this pic. 

We also went and scoped out another property Josh wanted to see.  And by we, I mean I stayed in the car with Noah and Anna rather than hike a big hill with a toddler in 29 degree weather.  Josh has the patience of an saint.  He carried her most of the way.  They saw all they set out to see, though, and chatted with another prospective buyer and a neighbor as well. Like a walk in the park apparently? Ha! Josh is already feeling the soreness set in from their trek.

 

Just because I liked this accidental pic I took of my purse in the car while taking that pic of Josh and Lasa starting up the hill.  😆  It has light, shadow, texture, movement.  It has it all!

And finally, Josh and Noah hit up a Smash Bros. Tournament at Prince Street Pizza.  Noah has it in mind to compete in a Smash Bros. Tournament himself here soon, so they went to get the lay of the land and see how it all works.

 

They ran into friends while there, which was a plus!

Journaling in John and 1 John

I haven't done a lot of journaling over the last year.  And I have done even less inking of what I journaled.  On this three day weekend, I inked a few things that have been waiting for me ... some additions I did in John.  And then my first journaling pass through 1 John.

 

 

 

 

 

Weather Wishes vs. Wreath?

I keep wishing for snow and the forecast has taunted us with hope for it tonight maybe, but I know better than to believe we will wake up to anything but gloomy, wet mud on the ground. HA!  Oh well.  There is still February to hope for!

In the meantime, I spent some Christmas money finally on a pretty green wreath for the front door, which has gone without any decor for over a year (not counting Halloween and Christmas wreaths).  But tell me the truth, is it ok for me to put up a vibrant green wreath in the dead of winter while we wishfully watch the skies for snow?  

Museum + Market

Took in our first field trip of 2019 with some friends of ours, Amy and her kids,  and the group from Nashville Homeschool Calendar on Wednesday.  We hit up the new TN State Museum at its beautiful new location.  All the improvements were so great, including convenient parking - ha!  Afterward, we walked over to Nashville Farmer's Market for our first ever visit and enjoyed a lunch, however chaotic it was with all the people there - wow!  I am so mad at myself for not getting a pic at the Farmer's Market.  Next time - preferably when the outdoor market is in full swing, too.

In other school stuff, the kids got this feedback from their teachers at CHET for the first semester.  Proud of both of them and how they carry themselves amongst others.
