Taa Daa: Magnetic Wall

Noah's room has yet to be finished, but we knocked out one big missing piece this weekend.  He needed a way to display his maps and poster.  We priced magnetic boards.  We priced making our own magnetic boards.  Both ended up being more than we expected/were willing to pay.  THEN, I remembered something I had once seen on HGTV - Magnetic paint! Josh didn't believe me at first, but one quick google search changed things.
Magnetic wall, it was!

First, taping the space and laying drop cloths.
Josh did all this before I even got up the next morning!

Getting started.

It was recommended to apply numerous coats.  In the end, I added 3 coats to Josh's 6, making it 9.  Didn't want to have to redo it later.

We painted over the black with a color that would brighten.  We were surprised that gray could brighten. :)

Adding trim.

Adding first poster.  Star Wars, of course.

Adding the guest of honor.  :)

Then adding the finishing touches:  his name and his newest map ...

and another map NOT on the wall - a globe that belonged to Josh's grandfather.
